The last newsletter of Shoshit Seva Sangh was issued on April 04, 2012. Since then the following developments have taken place which may be of interest –
i) The 6th Foundation Day of Shoshit Samadhan Kendra, the fully free English medium residential school for the poorest of the poor, run by Shoshit Seva Sangh was held on July 16, 2012, in the school premises. The function was well attended. Among those attending the function were about 300 parents and guardians of the students. The Chief Guest was Mr. Amarjeet Sinha, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Bihar. Speaking as the Chief Guest at the end of the function Mr. Sinha who is also a Rhodes Scholar said that he was closely involved in framing the Serva Shiksha Abhiyan (Universal Education Programme) launched by government of India and had occasion to visit many schools in the country. During these visits he witnessed cultural performances put-up by children of the schools and he could say with confidence that one of the best programme that he had seen was the one presented by SSK students on the Foundation Day. The piece de resistance was presentation of an Act from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar by the students. Leading newspapers national dailies Times of India and Hindustan Times covered the event. ii) The construction of the boundary wall of the land (1.80 acres) acquired for the proposed school building of SSK has been completed. It is a 8 feet high wall and its area is approximately 1503 square meters on pile foundations. The total cost of construction of the boundary wall including plaster work is approximately Rs.28,27,000/-. Attempt now is to raise funds for the construction of the school building to house 500 school children The building is estimated to cost Rs.7 crores as per the Detailed Project Report.
iii) In June-July three volunteers sponsored by a Delhi based NGO called Pravah worked at the school for 45 days. One of them was a student from IIT Delhi. They lived in the school premises and were able to strike a rapport with the students. A highly qualified teacher, Mrs. Archana Jha was appointed as the Principal of SSK. She had her schooling at Loreto Covent, Ranchi and graduated with English honours from Stella Maris College, Chennai. She did her Post-graduation from Delhi University and B.Ed. from IGNOU. She has more than 15 years of teaching experience in leading schools of India including Delhi Public School and Notre Dame Academy, Patna. Presently SSK has a faculty comprising 14 highly qualified teachers, one Hostel Superintendent and two Asst. Hostel Superintendents.
