The last newsletter on Shoshit Seva Sangh was issued on 17th April, 2013. Since then the following developments have taken place which may be of interest –
i) The faculty and staff at Shoshit Samadhan Kendra, the school run Shoshit Seva Sangh has been augmented. Simranpreet Singh Oberoi, a qualified engineer from MIT, Pune, who was working in the corporate sector has joined as Chief Project Officer. He was a fellow of the Young India Fellowship programme and has a passion for working for the underprivileged children. Similarly, Mr. Dilkash Wakeel, a post-graduate from the famous Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, who was working in a multinational bank joined as the Project Leader. Both of them live in the school premises and have really added quality to the faculty and the management staff at the school. A highly qualified teacher in English who has done Masters in the subject and has a B.Ed. degree as well as extensive experience of teaching in English medium schools has joined the faculty. The student teacher ratio at SSK is 1:22 . There are 320 children in the school.
ii) The Foundation Day of SSK was observed on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Mr. Yashwant Sinha, former Union Finance & Foreign Minister of India, was the Chief Guest and Mr. Janak Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Bihar, was the Guest of Honour. The students put-up a cultural performance which included a one act play from Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’. The function was well attended and the audience included over 200 parents / guardians of the students. It was well covered in the Press. Some photographs of the function are attached.
iii) The construction of the school building is progressing satisfactorily. So far Rs. 5 crores have been spent on the construction work. The total cost of the project is Rs. 12 crores. It will be a double-storied building with a foundation for four floors. When completed the building will accommodate 500 school children in residence. The elevation of the building is attached.
