During this period Shoshit Samadhan Kendra, the fully free English medium residential school for the poorest of the poor, the children of musahar community, has taken significant strides to further improve the quality of the faculty. A new Principal with more than 25 years of teaching experience both in India and abroad joined in February, 2018. He hails from Hyderabad and is resident in the school campus. An ex-Naval officer joined as the Chief Warden. After his retirement in 2003 he worked as a Chief Warden in an educational institution for Chemistry, English and Hindi have also joined the faculty. The student-teacher ratio at SSK is 1:25.
The final exams at the end of the academic year 2017-2018 was held in the month of March, 2018. The overall performance of the school was very satisfactory with some classes achieving excellence. Classes IV, V and VII averaged more than 90%. The annual result of classes X & XII are awaited. These exams were external exams held by the CBSE. The results are expected in June, 2018.
It may be recalled that the school admits children only in the pre-school class. Lateral entry into higher classes is not possible as there is hardly any literacy among the children of the musahar community. Quality education particularly in English is a far cry. For the academic year 2018-19 one hundred students instead of fifty as the previous ears were selected and admitted to the school. The selection was done by the teams of teachers sent to various districts of Bihar. The children selected are from the poorest of the poor families in the musahar (rat-eaters) community. The photographs of some of the admissions with their parents and their hut in the background are given below. The extreme level of poverty is evident. There are presently 500 students in SSK.
